MoU Sign Between BISP And KCCI 

Director General (DG) Zulfiqar Ali Shaikh of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Sindh has suggested that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BISP under the Benazir Hunarmand Programme. This would allow both organizations to work together to identify skills that are in high demand, suggest accredited training facilities, and jointly explore ways to make the program successful.

BISP Seeks Business Community’s Support To Align Training With Job Market Needs

In a meeting held during his visit to KCCI on Monday, he stated, “We want to establish a robust mechanism where the business community guides us on labor market needs, so we can ensure that beneficiaries of BISP receive the right training, become employable, and ultimately self-reliant.

Ten million families in Pakistan, including 2.7 million in Sindh, benefited from BISP, but depending only on cash stipends is not long-term viable, the DG of BISP Sindh emphasized.

Importance Of BISP Collaboration With KCCI

“Our strategy needs to change as poverty rates continue to climb. By providing economic possibilities to vulnerable households, this relationship with KCCI has the potential to be a game-changer, he said, adding that it will not only enhance individual livelihoods but also aid in addressing the skilled labor shortage in Pakistan’s manufacturing and industrial sectors.

According to Dr. Tahir Noor, Additional Secretary BISP, the government has allotted Rs720 billion for BISP this year, with women in qualifying families receiving a stipend of Rs13,500.

Benazir Hunarmand Program: Pilot Project

For this reason, the Benazir Hunarmand Program, a pilot project designed to train people from low-income households in accordance with market demands, has been supported by Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid. They will also receive beginning kits upon completion of training, enabling them to start small enterprises or secure fulfilling jobs,” he added.

BISP, KCCI to Align Skills with Industry Needs and Ensure Transparency

According to him, BISP need KCCI’s help in determining the current demands of Karachi’s industry, recommending training facilities whose credentials are recognized by employers, and making sure that program participants can easily integrate into industrial units.

This is not just about reducing dependency on stipends, this is about creating productive citizens who can contribute to the economy,” he said. Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, president of the KCCI, emphasized the necessity of stringent control to guarantee that BISP monies are utilized effectively and go to the most deserving.
